I saw this movie in a crazy manner. It was my son's night stay at school. I and my wife went on a movie date to a Tamil movie. That one was boring and we had a night to kill, so we planned to watch, Once upon a time in Hollywood, immediately after the Tamil movie in the theatre. I have done such crazy things a decade ago when I was in college. We were excited for the movie just because of this reason alone. The movie didn't disappoint me at all.
I like Quentin Tarantino's biting sarcasm and many scenes were an LOL moments for me. Many of my friends complained about the pace of the movie, but I found it perfectly enjoyable and good. I was expecting something gruesome to happen to the lovely and charming Margot Robbie, but it was a such surprise. I don't know if I should be ashamed or not, I was really LOLing at the flamethrower incident in the climax.
The best thing is that I had not heard of Charlie Manson before this movie. I was thinking that some dude called Mark Manson killed the pregnant Sharon Tate. BTW, Mark Manson is the dude that writes self help books with "F*ck" words in the title. I was surprised by the movie and I should have guessed it coming since we have seen the Quentin's revisionist history narrative in Inglourious Basterds itself. I really loved the character of Brad Pitt, such a cool dude acting with so much panache.
But the icing in the cake for me was, when I came across a podcast series on Charlie Manson. It was really awesome to see how little things were scripted by Tarantino in this movie.
I have just completed the 4 episodes in the 12-episode series on Charlie Manson. It is so fascinating narrated and paints a great picture about Hollywood and LA in 60's and 70's. Once I finish the podcast series, I will watch again.
Highly recommend it, if you are a Tarantino fan.
