Yes, it is not a typo. I say "streak" and "Streak" intentionally.
I have been very erratic in the past three months here at 200WaD and 750words.com as well. It started with a holiday trip with the family, then an official trip to the U.S and then a 6-weeks online bootcamp for the growth product manager. All these events broke my streak. Yes, it did bother me that all the effort I had put into maintaining my streak in the past few months has gone south. The beautiful streak stat: the number of posts and number of continuous posts either matching or being high.
My streak was broken. It bothered me, and it also didn't.
It didn't bother because I was living a life and doing things. I was busy with work and other things. I frankly, did not prioritise the 200WaD activity. I still believe it is okay because I want to be mediocre because I want to live a good life. No point in stressing myself. No point in hogging my day with some many obligations and commitments.
I love writing, and I didn't want the pressure of streak to get on to me. I want to write for a long time, and I call that Streak.
If the streak is publishing 365 posts a year, Streak is about to have published enough in a year. Some years my Streak will be high with 200 posts or in some years, it will be okay with just 24 posts.
If the streak is like playing a finite game, Streak is an infinite game.
The whole point of Streak is to write consistently well and ship frequently. I don't want to my streak to get the better off me. I love writing online. I want to ship at a good cadence. I want to be happy on all the posts I am writing as part of the Streak.
From now, I am not going to break a sweat if my streak goes away. I want to live a good and interesting life. I want my life to motivate me and fuel my writing. I know that I consume a lot (read, listen and watch a ton of things). I will remember my motto of writing more to consume things, not go on a media fast.
