Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I write about anything that interests me.

Why I want to write in 750words.com along with writing 200WaD

Why I want to write in 750words.com along with writing 200WaD

No, I am not crazy. Or not yet. Here is my reason.

A few weeks ago to improve my writing in 200WordsaDay (200WaD), I took the approach of writing less public posts and more private posts. These private posts were a raw dump of my mind or rough notes of works in progress. I was sandbagging in the private posts by just meeting the 200 words count. By sandbagging I mean, I was not really emptying up my thoughts and writing freely. I was just trying to meet the 200 words goal and maintain the streak. The soft pressure of maintaining the streak is extremely good. It holds me accountable for making writing as a daily practice.

Julia Cameron in her legendary book Artist's Way says that everyone, aspiring or non-aspiring artists should write three pages a day the first thing in morning. It is a private journal and it is not meant for anyone else other than you. By having the practice of writing three pages a day, you get the benefits of thinking clearly and articulating yourself better in whatever craft you are practising.

In 200WaD, by writing in private, I was not getting the full benefits and I just kept the streak going. The biggest benefit of 200WaD is public writing and the community around it. I get feedback, opinions and words of encouragement from the public content that is being put out. Writing here is like tapping the tuning fork and see if it resonates with others or not. That is extremely crucial if I want to get better at the craft of writing and blogging.

So for the next four weeks, my approach is going to be, no private posts in 200WaD. I will work hard to keep my streak alive. I will also write in 750words.com for all the days and it will be a private journal. I may repurpose or remix the content from both based on the subject, quality or interest. But I am experimenting to keep both the streaks alive.

Like always, wish me luck :-)
