Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I write about anything that interests me.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

This my second watching of this sci-fi-romance movie. I had watched it almost ten years ago. A friend of mine swears that this is the best romantic movie ever made. I was reminded of him at the weekend and remembered this movie randomly. I don't know if it is second viewing or watching with subtitles on in Netflix or my mood for a truly romantic film or being primed by my friend's opinion, it was a mindblowing experience.

It had a crackling cast of actors. Never knew Jim Carrey could deliver such a fantastic performance (don't even remember this). Kate Winslet, Mark Ruffalo, Kirsten Dunst were excellent.

When Kirsten says to Tom Wilkinson says about Nietzsche's quote, "Blessed are the forgetful, for they get the better even of their blunders." and adds the poem of  Alexander Pope’s, “How happy is the blameless vestal's lot! The world forgetting, by the world, forgot. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each prayer accepted, and each wish resigned.” Kirsten sounded like a dumb and apocryphal person. But when we know the context of why she behaves, it was awesome.

The initial scenes sounded like some random happenings for me. But as and when it progresses, and you are able to connect all the plots, it was satisfying and mindblowing.

The last few fifteen minutes were tear-inducing for me. From the moment Jim Carrey hears the cassette recording of Kate's talk with Tom, the movie caught me and shook me to the core.

I can understand why this is the best romantic movie ever made. If you can watch it, please do. After that, search on YouTube for the film analysis, it is gratifying.
